I let our clothes line dry in the sun room. Even the ones I take the the laundromat, I bring home slightly damp after centrifuging them to hang. It is starting to get colder here and the clothes are taking longer to dry out there, because the sun room, is not heated, and I don't want our clothes freezing in the winter. I can hear it now....
Michael: Cutie, did you wash any brown socks?
Nichole: Yes, they are out in the sunroom, but you can't wear them.
Michael: Why not?
Nichole: They are frozen.
Last night Michael had the brilliant idea of using our broken washer/dryer (they are one in the same) to JUST dry the clothes without washing them. Dry the clothes, in the dryer! Oh my gosh, what a genius idea, and WHY and HOW, on earth, has it taken us many long months to come up with that? Surely there was a reason, but we couldn't think of it. Surely we had tried that before, but we couldn't remember it. We must not have even thought to do it. Seems silly huh?
Today I did my first load of laundry and hung everything on the hanging rack to dry except one shirt, the test shirt, which I stick in the machine. I turn on the dry cycle and everything seems great, test shirt is tossed around, and the glass is heated up. Wow, did we just figure out a way to dry our cloths? GREAT! I'll let test shirt dry completely before I put a whole load in.
I wash load number two. When I look down I do a double take to see that the washer is filled with water!! WHAT WHAT WHAT?? First, how did that happen when I had it on the dry cycle? And second, how did that happen without the water spewing all over the floor? I have no answers but start to slowly feel like an idiot as I'm running through the possible conversation in my head...
Nichole: (trying not to laugh at her own stupidity) Michael, I need a beer...or 5.
Michael: (with a confused look) Why?
Nichole: I've been doing our laundry by hand SINCE FEBRUARY, when our washer actually does work!!
Michael: (feeling really bad for his hard working housewife) your kidding?
Nichole: No. I'm not. But we can't tell my mom. She is going to love this, and we will never hear the end of it.
Michael: (laughs)
Nichole: No, seriously, we can't ever tell her.
Michael: Here, have a beer.
So, how in the world does the washer magically fill with water without flooding our bathroom? I need to find the trick so I can stop lugging our big stuff to the laundromat and maybe finally stop washing stuff by hand too! I sit and stew over this wonderful possibility for about 10 minutes when I hear the washer/dryer stop. I think its time for the water to drain...NOPE! The next thing I remember I hear a VERY familiar noise that wakes me from my happy dreamy washing machine at home state, and I take off like a bolt of lightning to the bathroom and fumble with the controls to make the machine stop. I grab a towel and place it below the dryer to soak up the puddle of water that I think is still pretty much under control. Not wanting to cause it anymore stress, I get test shirt outta there, which is now soaking wet, and throw it in the sink to be rewashed.
Now, I have to drain the water.
Ok, easy enough, I'll hit the drain button.
Nothing.
Crap, I forgot that the machine doesn't drain either!
I change clothes so I can clean up the mess. I come back and sit in front of the machine with a damp towel between us. Then, I hear the machine click over to another setting and without warning water is spewing not just all over the floor, but me too. I try a couple different things with the machine, and everytime I just manage to get more wet and the bathroom gets more flooded.
Nice.
I think it is at this point I text Michael
Nichole: Your idea of trying out the dryer was a bad bad idea. Very bad. I definitely have my hands full till you come home. BAD IDEA
Michael: What happened?
Nichole: Too long to type
Michael: ok......
Nichole: but its a mess of water everywhere
Michael: sorry!
Nichole: oh its not all your fault ;)
Michael: I think it is
Nichole: then you should come home and help me
Michael: I should
Nichole: awe dont worry about it
Michael: I'll help when I get home
Nichole: ok
(I'm still waiting for him to come home to help. Soon though. Soon.) I look back at the bathroom and water is still kinda leaking from somewhere and now, the couple piles of clothes I had on the bathroom floor to be washed are also all wet. I felt better about it when I decided to look at the wet clothes as lucky cuz they got a pre-rinse. :)
I manage to clean the floor all up, which was difficult because I didn't want to get more then one towel sopping wet, nor did i feel like using 4 rolls of paper towels to do the job. I washed the towel, test shirt and all the rest of the clothes that got wet. And those are all happily drying on our hanging rack in the sun room making fun of all our other clothes that didn't get a pre rinse.
Now the machine is sitting there half filled with water with no way to drain it. Well there is a way, but I was wet and cold and couldn't deal with it any longer, so I'm gonna have Michael help me because it too, will create a mess. Basically, we will take cups, and toss water out of there cup by cup. Unfortunately, at the end, there is a little trap on the machine, that has to be drained which will again, get water all over the floor, but with both of us, hopefully it will limit the amount.
Now, I am sitting here nice and cozy in warm flannel pj bottoms that Sharon got me for my birthday and a nice dry shirt, writing this as a way for us to remember, that YES, we have tried just drying the clothes, and please, don't under any circumstances, try it again.

Enjoying Copenhagen and Lyngby
I love rain. I love fall. Most years I could do without summer. But what "they" say, seems true, when all you get is rain, you get tired of it, when all you get is cloudy days, you long for the sun. I don't know who "they" are, but "they" knew what they were talking about.
This weekend was nothing short of gorgeous days of sun, sun and more sun with a slight cool breeze that made the weekend simply perfect! The air feels like fall though, but one of those beautiful warm, fall days. So we took advantage of the weekend and played tourists in our own home!
First thing we did was head to Copenhagen climb the "Rundetaarn" (Round Tower) for a view of Copenhagen. We figured, we've seen Oslo,Rome, Paris, Tokyo, Istanbul and even a couple small German villages from way up high on towers and mountain/hilltop, it was probably about time we saw Copenhagen as well. The entrance was pretty cheap (for Copenhagen standards) at 25DKK a person (about $4.50) so we thought, why not!

Once at the top we had an amazing 360 degree view. Knowing so many of the buildings and streets made looking at wonderful Copenhagen that much better. We could see pretty far and could even see some really tall buildings in the distance which we immediately recognized as "Høj Gladsax" , which is basically where we lived last time we lived here.

After the tower we wondered around Copenhagen. Stopped at Nyhavn grabbed some soft ice, then hopped on a boat (one that is tied up and doesn't go anywhere) for a micro-brew style beer. The city was so very full of tourists, not many Americans though. Seemed like the streets were filled with Swedes and Brits. We both have an " Årskort" (year card) for Tivoli, so as long as we were in the city we hopped in there for another beer and sat right next to the little lake in there and had a really good time. After all this, we were starving so came home and ate and rested our feet. (We actually do tire ourselves out from walking, but no one has been brave enough to stick it out long enough to see that actually happen!)

Sunday was just as lovely if not more so then Saturday. We hit the gym in the AM which was pretty much like an old abandon town. We were the only ones in there for about 45 minutes until 4 people came and hopped on treadmills. Then there were 6 of us. Danes love the sun, I'm sure they didn't want to waste any of the weather on being indoors. I can't blame them. We were doing abs and I told Michael that at that moment, I envied their freedom of not being so ridiculously dedicated. We got out of there as fast as we could and headed for a little walk. We stopped at a bakery on the way to grab some bread (and it was the first time Michael had ever witnessed me doing everything in Danish). We headed towards something called, "Lyngby Fort" I had seen it on a map and was just a little curious what it was, so we went. To be quite honest, I'm still not exactly sure what it is, but I know it was built in 1887 -1892. It was, "interesting" to say the least. Kinda hidden behind houses, and very overgrown with growth. We climbed up to the top and ate up there.

Walking back to our place we stumbled upon a hidden treasure. A "Møntvask"!!! It is a Laundromat!! For those of you who remember months and months ago I had to start doing our laundry by hand....again.... well. I am STILL doing it that way. Long story short...our landlord sucks and we do not want to spend the money to buy a washer that we can't take back with us because they are quite pricey. ANYWAYS, so we have searched every corner of Lyngby (or so we thought) looking for one and never could find one. On our way home, somehow we ended up on a hidden curve of a street, not too far from our place, and staring me in the face was the word, "Møntvask". I grabbed Michaels arm and pulled him across the street as he was laughing knowing my pleasure in seeing this word. I haven't minded doing our laundry by hand but the sheets and towels are quite the chore, because they are so big. I think that was the highlight of the day! Today, I'll be heading down there with towels and sheets to get those all washed and I am very excited about it, as I am sure my mom and a few of my close friends are very excited for me as well!! haha.
We got back to our place about 3:30 and spent the rest of the afternoon/evening on our balcony. Reading, drinking some wine, doing Danish homework, eating dinner....etc.

Today looks just as wonderful as the past couple days. Perhaps August will turn out to be ok after all. I'm not holding my breath just yet, but I'm closing my eyes and wishing really really hard that it keeps this nice.

Apparently the tower part of the Trinitatis complex, and included an astronomical observatory, a student church and a university library. It was built between 1588-1648We saw the church and the library which were a decent size and quite nice. It is also the oldest observatory in Europe and is still used! At night in the winter (which is practically all day long haha) people can go up and use the telescope to see the sky.

Climbing the tower was pretty simple. The entire climb looked like this until the very end where there were about 15 steps. Not too bad. Easiest tower climb we have ever done (worst one was in Freiburg Germany where we climbed just short of 1,000 stairs in the narrowest little stairwell, in a Cathedral to get to the top of a bell tower) I was actually a little surprised to see many people huffing and puffing on their way up.

5 Orders of Buisiness
Danish Classes
- Umm they are.. Oooookaaaay... besides being inconvenient they kinda seem like a waste of time right now. I think it's a little difficult because we seem to know a bit more Danish then everyone else in the class so it seems to be moving really slow. We have gotten some clarification on some pronunciation and thats good, but still makes it boring. and did I mention inconvenient? ;) I actually found a couple places that offer basically one on one classes or one on two in our case. Michael was going to contact them and see if perhaps we could get private lessons if you will. TI provided us with 10,000 US dollars a person for language training for 1 year.. THATS 20,000 BUCKS!! WOAH! so, we could afford them since TI would be paying for them. Hopefully that will be good, because I can't see us keeping up this schedule every week for the next 2 years. *sigh*
Michael Sick - Michael was a bit under the weather this week, but seems to be better today. Nothing serious, just a yucky cold type thing. Cross your fingers I don't get it. I have a habit of when I catch something he has had, I get it 10 fold.
Laundry Machine - Remember when it was broken? Ya is broken again. This time it is spewing water out onto the floor when we turn it on.. thats always fun. Hopefully our landlord will send someone soon. Our pile of clothes is just about to start growing big time :(
Party - Tonight we are having a little get together at our place with the past and present students from the Texas Tech/Denmark Technical University exchange program. Besides Micheal and Klaus, there will be one other Dane named Jens(and his girlfriend Sarah) and two Americans here currently studying named Austin and Roland. We just thought it would be nice to have everyone get together. There will only be 3 people missing. 2 other Americans who are both in Dallas right now and one Dane whom I believe is also in Dallas right now.
Mom/Sharon Blog - I've been meaning to mention this, my mom and her best friend stated up their own little blog and today mentioned some of my loyal blog commenter's! So look, you guys are famous! ;)

While I'm at it, either though I know only about... oooo 5% of the people that read this actually post comments but I wanted to thank all my loyal readers for letting me know that you read this. I always get a feeling of satisfaction when I hear you tell me you have read it, or tell me via email or even via myspace!! It lets me know this isn't a waste of time! ;)

Dirty Laundry.. and Pictures!
As you may recall, I had been doing our laundry while we were in the hotel in the sink and hanging it to dry. I could only do so much but that was ok, as I washed what we needed to get us through. Needless to say we had a decent amount of laundry to do when we moved into our flat. We have a front loading machine that is both a washer and a drier. Excited to be able to have all clean cloths, we almost immediately started doing laundry. Our first load, was to say the least, a mess. First it took forever, and second, it didn't drain. You know in all those movies or tv shows where they show a person who moved to a foreign land and somehow a fight breaks between them and a machine they don't understand? That was us, sitting in front of the washer wondering what on earth we were doing wrong. So, we called the landlord who came to look at it,who ended up having to call a repairman, and we had to wait another week to wash clothes. Thankfully the movers brought the rest of our clothes so we had some to sustain us through the week but i had horrible memories as I started sorting through the clothes to stick in bags and laundry baskets to wait for the washer to be fixed. Once upon a time, when we were about 20, we did our laundry probably every 2 weeks when the pile got so bad, it created a small mountain that we had to hike over to get to the bedroom. Michael would sit at the pile and throw cloths at me while calling a color while I caught them and put them in the correct pile, then we started a nonstop 2 day laundry marathon. I'm so glad we finally grew up, but sure makes for fun memories. LOL. I have been doing 3 loads a day (because thats how slow the washer/drier is thats all I can pump out) and finally, today, I am almost done. I have three loads left. One of red sweatshirts, one bedsheets and one of towels. WHOO HOO!!!
Ok, finally some pictures of what our place looks like so far... This weekend we are going to start hanging stuff on the walls.
We will start from the outside, This is our Balcony.

Living Room Area - Neither of us can stand the ugly ugly curtain things. They are just decoration, not even real curtains. thats as far as they go, but the colors, just dont work for us. We are in the Market for new ones. We also are hoping to do that area in black and brown but for now, it is decked out with Texas Tech because we have so much red/black stuff. Since I typed this a couple hours ago, Michael has already taken down the ugly curtains! YEA!
Our lovely TV :)

THE END! I must also say I'm sorry to my mom and Sharon for telling them about 5 times today that I would have these pictures online in a few minutes, which turned out to be several hours! sorry :( ... :)
